On December 6th, we have one of the BIGGEST transits of 2024 with Mars, the planet of action, anger, and ambition, turning retrograde at 6 degrees of Leo. Mars will make its way backward to the sign of Cancer before turning direct on February 23, 2025, at 17 degrees of Cancer. 

Get ready, as this one will be a doozy!! Mars retrogrades are rare and impactful. The planet of war only turns retrograde every 2 years, and its retrograde cycle lasts 80 days. His retrograde motion is significant as it doesn’t happen very often, and because Mars is an inner planet, it affects us more profoundly and personally. Mars rules many essential aspects of our lives, such as our ambitions, energy levels, vitality, courage, and initiative. 

Mars retrograde in Leo/Cancer brings interesting occurrences related to our ambitions and energy levels. The best advice I can provide is to avoid pushing it during this time. While this may seem challenging as we live in a world that is GO, GO, GO all day/every day, there is a better time (when he turns direct) to push our agendas. 

The best way to utilize this Mars Retrograde is to go within and use this fiery planet’s drive for inner work and reigniting passion into past-based projects or initiatives. Surrendering in any situation can be difficult, but it will be imperative for us to slow down and try to chill for the next 80 days. Now, I am not saying to do nothing, lol! However, the best way to get stuff done during this retrograde phase of Mars will be to go with the flow and take extended breaks to replenish our energy levels. We might feel more tired and worn out. If you push it too far, there also could be massive arguments and disagreements during this time. Cool out + go with the flow. If you can manage to do this, success and progress will be much easier.  

Folks with their Ascendant, Sun, and Moon signs either on/or close to 6 degrees of Leo (where Mars turns retrograde) or 17 degrees of Cancer (where Mars turns direct) will be most impacted by this transit. Wherever you have Leo and Cancer in your natal chart, these will be the areas to watch now. Even if you don’t have planets in those signs ( lucky for us that you do), you still have houses that rule each sign. Expect heated events and possible unexpected surprises around your ambitions and courage within those Cancer/Leo houses.
